Task Force to Implement change in Pharmacy
What was done?
EFCP is the national and regional organization concerned with clinical pharmacy academics, practice and research in Egypt and regionally. It’s our responsibility to spread the knowledge as well as awareness of good pharmacy practice and to advance pharmacy profession. Started in 2015 EFCP has organized many training activities for pharmacists and pharmacy students. During EFCP 2018 annual meeting representatives from ACCP,ASHP,ACPE,AACP and Minnesota university and North Carolina University were present. With almost 1000 participants from various pharmacy sections and specialities all over Egypt the topic of advancing pharmacy education and practice was discussed .EFCP got recognized as a member organization at the International Pharmaceutical Federation FIP in 2019 .EFCP now has many ties and collaborations with national and international societies to implement change. On September 29th 2020 a gathering of international organizations including EAHP, ASHP, APhA,ISOPP,ESCP and universities of Virginia Commonwealth VCU, North Carolina University, University of Illinois at Chicago UIC and Colorado University led by FIP joined together for a founding meeting to establish a task force to implement change in pharmacy career in Egypt. For more than 2 hours the participants discussed their organizations and their views on implementing the change in Pharmacy in Egypt, a recommendation paper were written and guidelines for next meetings and steps.
Why was it done?
Pharmacy education and practice in Egypt was based on traditional practices in Egypt for so many years. The need to change it to a patient focused practice was a must. The creation of the Global Task force to implement change was done to search the needs for advancing pharmacy career in Egypt, start collaboration projects with various organizations, follow up on the implementation of these projects and announce the results to be published as a model for change.
How was it done?
Communications were made with various collaborators and organizations to gather support for the project including identifying the problem, having separate meetings to organize for it, putting together a meeting agenda and discuss it with different partners.
Gab analysis was introduced on the needs of pharmacy practice, current status and a plan to advance pharmacy career
What has been achieved?
A task force to advance pharmacy career in Egypt and implement change was created followed by identifying the needs for practice and education in Egypt leading to the start of various projects to advance the career including postgraduate degrees, CE programs, exchange programs and others which would help to support the change in Egypt.
What's next?
An introduction of a full gab analysis to the needs for pharmacy change in Egypt, the projects that were started, plan for next phases will be put on front of the task force for adjustment and follow up.
